A pride and tradition of Great Falls High, the theater department provides not only entertainment but also a unique and extensive study program into the world of acting and stage production. Lead by award winning director Krystina Theil Smalley, the theater department has successfully produced many famous straight plays as well as musicals including The Wiz, Romeo and Juliet, A Streetcar Named Desire, You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown, and Brighton Beach Memoirs. Just this year, Private Wars (Directed by stagecraft teacher Joel Corda) took first place at the state thespian festival and will be presented at the regional competition.
A strong believer in the “TAT” acting method, Krystina Theil, theater teacher at Great Falls High, places great emphasis on opening her classes to all students regardless of previous experience or knowledge of performing arts. This unique class explores and hones not only stage presence but also public speaking skills, movement, costuming, and make up design.
Heading the stagecraft department, Joel Corda believes in balancing hard work and play to produce a strong product that his students can be proud of. A mixture of stage, sound, and light design, this class provides a well rounded view into the world “behind the stage.”
